April 2014
I can't wait to go around Australia.

Saturday 3 May
I hope when we go around Australia I will see animals like camels, eagles, echidnas, emus, thorny devils.

Tuesday 10 June
we started at our grandma house because people are staying in our house while we go around Australia. When we drove up the mountains we went up to Lithgow and they had a dog called Spike and he was very VERY playful. After going to Lithgow we drove and drove until it was night we stayed at my mums friends house.

Thursday 12 June
Today we are in Bourke. We were going to go to a exhibition centre where we will go to a outback show. We saw 3 camels 2 were brown and 1 white. The Darling River flows through Bourke. Combined with the Murray River, they are the 5th longest river in the world. It had pelicans in it and big, fat trees on its banks. It was very beautiful. We also went to see an old bridge and it looked a bit dangerous because the railing was so far apart. We saw more birds and thousands of noisy birds up in the sky and trees.

Saturday 14 June
Today we started driving to lots of opal mines which are very deep and the place was called White Cliff.

After going to White Cliff we watched a movie called Racing Stripes which is about a zebra. We went on dirt roads we saw Emus , Kangaroos , Cows , Horses and goats they were cute. After that we watched the last bit of Racing Stripes. We watched the whole movie of Robots and I did not like it. We stayed at a place called Pincally.

Saturday 21 June
We are now in South Australia after crossing the border at Camerons Corner which is in the Strzelecki Desert. Before that we went to a place called Tibooburra which had lots of rocks and we had our own rock.

Today, in the Flinders Ranges, we went on a walk which was 12 km and I collected little rocks which were pink. We went to a hut called Grindells Hut. One day there lived a murderer, Grindell, who killed his son in law. His hut was only a little room. We had lunch there. Then we went back and we saw mountain goats.

Sunday 29 June
We are at Uluru and I rode a camel called Oprah and it was fun. Camels don't spit, I heard llamas spit.

On that day we climbed Ayres rock, it is the biggest and steepest rock in the world. It was so windy that it blew me so hard that I could not walk.

The next day we walked around the base of Ayres Rock which is 10km. We also went and looked at The Olgas (Kata Tjuta) and walked up the gorge. We also saw some aboriginal dancers. We met up with the Inglis family here and I saw Georgia Inglis who is in 2B.

Tuesday 8 July
Yesterday was my brothers 12th birthday and we had croissants for breakfast. We are in Alice Springs. We met a horse called Glama and we got to ride her. There was a dog called Shadow who was really cute and he could do stuff without people asking him, so he could sit down without people asking and roll over without asking. There were people up the road who my mum knew and they had a dog called Trixie. We climbed up a mountain, I climbed it two times, one time just with my brother and the other time with my family except dad who climbed later.

We went went to the Alice Springs Show and we got to go on the Dodgem Cars. After that we got Fairy Floss and an apple. When we were going to leave we got a show bag with lollies in them and it was a Wizz Fizz one and today they are all gone but I have still got these lollies called Eucalyptus lollies that I bought from the Information Centre and they were so yummy. they help you have a good breath. We had cake for Kai's birthday and it had every single flavour. We had dinner one night with mums friends. We had Spagetti bolognaise. At their place another day we had Golden Syrup Dumplings and they were so yummy I had a second plate of them. We also got to see the fireworks when the show finished.

Monday 14 July
We are at Western Australia and that's where I went on a train a old train . My family were pretend-fighting on the train, my mum and dad were the cops me and my brothers were robbers.

We went to a shop called Pixies shop and bought little things which was helpful to have. Then we went to the Wyndham Museum and there was a story about a man who died and because its so hot here they had to bury him quickly but then they had to dig him up the next Monday because he had a key in his pocket that they needed. After that we had lunch at the lookout on top of Wyndham and then we went to a billabong and saw lots of birds and even a crocodile in the wild.

Saturday 19 July
3 days ago it was my mums birthday. On her birthday we went to Amalia Gorge and I jumped off a rock into the water hole. I did it 1 time. Before Amalia Gorge we went to Zebedee Springs and it was like a bath tub. The 3rd gorge was called Emma Gorge - I did not go in the water there because it was too cold. Yesterday I rode a horse, now I know how to ride a horse. I rode a white horse and his name was Rusty. I rode him for 30 mins. It was fun.

Wednesday 23 July
Today was my dads birthday so I gave him a hug and Kai my brother gave him a card and it said I have something for you. You're holding it. The card was what he was holding. Yesterday we went on a walk and there were freshwater crocodiles and we saw some in the water. Today we went there again but my mum and dad did not go this time. When me and my brothers went we saw some crocodiles in the water and 2 on the yellow sand. We went back and saw our mum and dad, we looked together and looked at the sand. There were 9 crocodiles on the sand. We had to go. We stopped at Broome and we are having a great time there.

Thursday 7 August
A few days ago we were at Broome. We stayed there for 7 days. At Broome we went to the Crocodile Park and me and my brothers also saw some birds. A man came and fed the crocodiles. They were salt water crocodiles. The man gave the crocs some fish and I heard the crunch.

BUT THIS IS A REAL ONE:

Broome is a good place to be because I made a friend there and she was nice. Her name was Erynn. We had to go the next morning. We went to another camp spot and instead of a caravan we had tents. we had a little spot and it was called JUNDI. we had the toilets right next to us and the day after we looked in the toilet cisterns and there were 7 frogs in the middle toilet. My brother Kai picked one up and I patted it. On that day we went snorkelling at a beach but we did not see any fish. The second time we went snorkelling I saw fish. We set up the hammock. I slept in the hammock one night. Our hammock is colourful. I had a green tree frog on my arm. We went the next morning. The next place we went to we saw peacocks. We saw dolphins at our next camp spot.

Thursday 14 August
A few days ago we were at Parabudoo. There was a nice park. We stayed there for 4 days. It was a nice calm place because we had it all to our own self. Not like Coral Bay. It was crowded. We had a nice snorkel but it was cold. I saw nice fish like blue fish. At Parabudoo we went to a mine tour and we saw good things like big trucks and a lot of other things. We went to as pool at Coral Bay and it was really warm. There was a great park too, it had a jumping pillow and it was epick. The park was ok but I liked the jumping pillow the best.

Friday 22 August
Today we are at a no powered site. A few days ago we have been snorkelling and it has been great. When I was snorkelling I saw very very good fish. Like rainbow fish, Clown fish, black clown fish and lots of others. We have seen a whale in the water. They are swimming to Antartica for summer. My favourite fish in the world is a rainbow fish, they are so big and beautiful.

August

We are at Monkey Mia, yay! We saw dolphins and these are the names I still remember; Nicky, Eden and Puck.

At Monkey Mia there was a big chess set and I played it with my brothers. One time I was the knight in chess and Kai was putting me in places. There were some chairs that looked wide because they did not look like normal chairs. When we had to go to our next stop at Cape Peron we went on a walk and we were at a look out and when we looked into the ocean we saw 2 dolphins, 2 sharks, a turtle and a lot of manta rays. We saw baby manta rays too. Today we went on another walk at Kalbarri and saw an echidna.

Saturday 6 September
A few days ago we saw a pink lake and it was beautiful. It was pink. We did not swim in it but we drove past it. Right now we saw horses. They were very friendly. We gave them apples and they loved it. There was a park there, the place was called Pinjarra. The next day we went in the forest. We saw very, very big trees and they were very straight. one had a bubble on it and looked funny. We saw 2 trees with a ladder. The ladder up the tree was to see if there were any fires going on. The ladder was dangerous because I could fall in the gap. Dad did not let me go too high because it was so big and a bit wet. Before the forest we saw a farm and on that farm there were cows, horses, sheep, emus, kangaroos and pigs. A few days ago in Perth we saw a tower and went to the top of it. It looked very scary mum did not like the top. There was another park there and the pole was so fun because it was slippery.

We also went to Gnometown and there was so so many Gnomes. There were thousands.

We also went to a place called Cowaramup. There were lots of cows in the streets but they were statues.

We went on a walk to a lighthouse today. It was raining and it was like hail, it was very, very, very, VERY windy. It almost blew me away, it made me run very fast, it almost made me fly. The lighthouse was really good. When we went back and looked up it looked like it was going to fall on us. It was great weather to go to the lighthouse.

10 September
Today me and Sol slept in a hut and it was so cozy. Kai did not want to sleep in the hut so he slept in my bunk. The huts bed was a bunk bed. We had to put our own sleeping bag and mat in the bed. Next we went to The Valley of the Giants and I got to go in the trees and it was very fun. My family walked through a place where it was very scary because we were not on the ground, we were up so high. We saw the nice trees everywhere and it was very nice. In Albany we went to a rock called Dog Rock and it was like a dogs head.
We went on a pirate ship and it was so fun. We pretended that we were pirates. I got to climb the rigging but I did not get to go to the crows nest. We then got on another boat but it was not a pirate ship, it was a whale ship. That's where they caught and killed whales. We saw a skeleton from a blue whale. It was very big because it is the biggest animal on earth. The eye socket was as big as me.

We the stayed at a place called Porongurup and the people had 2 dogs and a goat. I got to feed the goat, it was called Goatie. I also got to collect the eggs every morning. The dogs were nice. We also got to feed pigs. When you think of pigs you think that they will be pink but these pigs were black not because they were dirty but its just the colour of these pigs.

Monday 15 September
WE ARE NOW AT WAVE ROCK. Me, Kai, Sol and dad had a photo taken of us on Wave Rock looking like we were surfing. Wave Rock is lots of colours, I thought it would be red.

Sunday 21 September
At Cape Le Grand National Park I saw a joey in the kangaroos pouch and it looked sooooo cute. I got to pat the mum kangaroo.

Right now we are crossing the Australia Bite. There are lots of cliffs at the bite. Our camp stop tonight has a beach and there are lots of lady bugs in the water so we are saving them. We have a bunch of them. We put them in a tree so we called it the Lady Bug Tree.

The Last bit of our Journey

We camped on a river called the Murray River and it is very famous there. There were lots of pelicans. Dad was fishing in it but he did not get anything. Kai was playing tricks on me and he said I had a very big bug on my back. We went back into Victoria to go to a pool which has waves in it. The wave pool at Mildura. There were waves in it because the people in that town had no beaches. At Parkes we went to The Dish and I learned that there are planets bigger than the sun. After that we went to Lithgow. We saw Spike again, he is a really nice dog and I have met him before. He is my best dog in the world. It was my mums cousins house.

  9. Hi Ayla
We got your postcard in the mail. It was awesome! We once had a kangaroo jump in front of our car at the beach house and it looked so funny. You have seen a whole zoo of animals already. The really long fence sounds fun, did you ask your mum and dad whether you could walk along it to make sure it really was super long?
We really miss you and can't wait until October when we can maybe have a play date.
We have 1 more week until school holidays which is cool. This Sunday I (Scarlett) have my first performance on the field as a junior eels cheerleader. I am a bit nervous but mainly excited.
We want to send you a post card but dad says that knowing the number plate of your car is not enough to deliver mail. We think it should be and might try it anyway.
We will write to you again soon.
    Miss you this much!
    Love from Scarlett and Matilda.

  15. Dear Ayla... lets hope you get this. It is raining today for the first time in 2 months. It is Oliver Bs birthday and he brought in cup cakes. We have been busy practising our recorders for next weeks performance and we are getting better and bettter. The commonwealth games have started and Australia won 5 gold medals last night. Open day is next week and we have been trying to make our classroom look colourful for the parents. This week we have been drawing different Australian wildflowers and Zara would like to know if you have seen a waratah yet ? Nathan would like to know if you needed to hold onto the chain at the top of Uluru because it was so windy ? Heidi would like you to count up the number of different animals you have seen so far on your trip. We loved your horse riding tale and think that you looked great up on top. Were you scared ? We have just read the story about how the kangaroos got their tales and wonder if you have seen any kangaroos boxing each other ? Please write back soon... Love 2 W

    1. Hello 2W
Thankyou for your message. I will try to answer your questions.
We have seen Waratahs at the Alice Springs Show.
There was no chain at the top of Uluru so it was a bit dangerous. There was only a chain climbing up the side.
I was not scared when I was riding Rusty. I wanted to stay on him longer.
We have seen lots of animals. I will try to list all of them: crocodiles, alligators, dolphins, sharks, wallabies, peacocks, 5 dingoes, emus, 1 echidna, lots of nice fish, black dingo, kangaroos, blue crab, wedgetail eagles, green snake, green tree frogs, cane toads, clam, parrots, cassowary, owls, blue Kookaburra, bats, pelicans, lizards, galahs, camels, cows, horses, sheep. We have also seen lots of dead animals on the road.
When we were having breakfast this morning we saw dolphins jumping through the water in front of us. We are near Port Hedland an the Western Australian coast.
I hope Open Day went well. Please write again soon.

  19. Dear Ayla
We are soo busy at school.. we are sorry that we haven't written for such a long time. We have had a student teacher Mrs Greenfield who will be coming back again when you come back. Mr T is retiring and his last day is Friday and we have been learning a song to sing to him. Aditi won the speech competition !! We went on an excursion to the Art Gallery and saw lots of paintings. We have been reading the book Are we there yet and have loved learning from you about some of the places you have been to. Here are some questions.... Will you be crossing the Nullabor? Ask your dad what it is like to drive because we think it would be deadly boring. Look out for whales on the Great Australian Bight. Did you visit Rottnest Island and see the quokkas? What did you feed the dolphins at Monkey Mia? have you seen a boab tree ? Where you scared when you climbed the enormous tree ? We look forward to your answers and to seeing you soon.. especially Zara
    Love 2W
